Maldita Educa launches the game 'Truth or Hoax: Coronavirus Edition' to learn to identify COVID-19 hoaxes

In the last few weeks, the hoaxes around COVID-19 have not stopped circulating: ibuprofen, health measures, supposed gifts that are actually trying to cheat you, an audio of a doctor warning you of I don’t know what… In Maldita.es we have not stopped working to disprove them and to ask ourselves how we can approach this task and the denials in a new and educational way.

That is why we have created a free downloadable board game: Truth or Hoax? Coronavirus Edition, which compiles the truths and hoaxes surrounding the virus so that the tester in all of us can learn to expose them. Want to give it a try? You can download and print it in color or black and white:

Truth or Hoax? Coronavirus Edition is an educational game for 5 to 9 adult and teen (14+) players. It uses examples of information and misinformation that have circulated about COVID-19 in recent months, and each game lasts about 30 minutes.

The dynamics of the game have been developed by a group of students from Stanford University, in order to offer a fun time to anyone who wants to learn how to fight disinformation through different characters: the verifier, the disinformer, the honest reader…

At Maldita.es we believe that education is the most effective weapon to fight lies, and for this reason we dedicate a lot of our time to give sessions, workshops and courses to teach our tools to people of all ages. Now that we are limited, we have dumped the best verification tricks in this didactic game for anyone who wants to learn from home in a fun way.

This material has been developed by Maldita.es based on PANDEMONIUM, a game created by Kevin Hsu, Allison Huynh, Natália Mazotte and Sedinam Worlanyo as part of the «377G: Designing Serious Games» course of the Knight Journalism Fellows Program at Stanford University (California, USA).
