We work with an innovative mixed business model driven by collaborations with allies around the world and across diverse sectors to build a stronger and more resilient ecosystem. Cultivating networks in the fields of fact-checking, academic research and the media to improve collaboration between entities in the fight against disinformation. Disinformation Study and Research

We study disinformation narratives, how they spread, their impact on society, and provide evidence on the effectiveness of solutions to combat them. We do this in contact with universities and study centres specialising in disinformation. In addition, we have a database of academic research on disinformation and fact-checking.

European Projects

Maldita.es operates a broad portfolio of European and EU-funded projects, both in a coordination and partner capacity. At present, we have more than 10 active European projects covering a wide diversity of themes and activity areas. This includes: those centered on the production of multiformat, evidence-based journalistic content for European audiences, such as our projects MALAGRI and ISPACohesion; projects working to promote a fact-based and inclusive European media sector resilient to disinformation, like FactCRICIS, MigraVoice, and SAFIMI Georgia; a number of educational initiatives, including Hatedemics and Level Up—a cross-border project promoting media literacy among older Europeans; along with various research projects collaborating with academic institutions and other stakeholders across Europe, such as ATHENA, Infoodmation and IBERIFIER Plus. Our current portfolio builds on our well established record participating in and coordinating many more European projects in the past, including the EU-funded project to establish the European Fact-Checking Standards Network. We also leverage a vast network of partners across different sectors and countries across the continent, collaborating with them in the fight against disinformation and the building of a more trustworthy public information space in Europe.

Public Policy

We generate alliances with aligned actors to define, explain and promote effective policies against disinformation at an international level. We provide data, facts and knowledge obtained independently to the actors involved in decision-making so that they can act with reliable information.

Events and conferences

We organize panels, conferences, events and camps on disinformation, fact-checking and journalism. Our team is prepared to speak in public about their area of expertise. In addition, we develop team building sessions on disinformation, security and digital coexistence. We offer motivational and leadership talks, based on our experience of innovation, growth and adaptation in a changing environment.

Solution Testing

We advise universities, developers and other types of organizations in the validation of results by developing tests and methodologies to test the effectiveness, usefulness and use of their analyses and/or technological tools to combat disinformation.

Services

We put our knowledge at the service of other organizations, media and companies. We develop multimedia products on disinformation, climate change or health, among others. From our obsession with being accessible, we offer editorial, communication and active community creation consulting. We advise on public policies and legislation in the field of disinformation and we carry out reports and research for third parties. We assess potential risks of misinformation and establish early warning systems for specific organisations and sectors.

Media Literacy

Our training is tailored to each type of audience: from a basic course for older people or teenagers “so they don’t fool you”, to specific training in verification for the editorial staff of a media outlet, universities, schools and institutes, town councils, NGOs or company executives. Creation and distribution of journalistic content

We create exclusive content for radio, television and digital products based on our methodology, such as our collaborations in the media or our project with Eroski Consumer. We have our own recording studio for radio, television and video podcasts. We also work to ensure that verified information reaches as far as possible: the Maldita.es Foundation has a free content agency for media outlets that includes debunking of hoaxes and explainers to resolve citizens’ doubts with facts and data. Fact-checking in your services

From our verification service for Meta to specific verification services for content producers or media outlets, we verify content according to our methodology to ensure that what reaches the public is free of errors and misinformation. We have verified, among others, the Netflix documentary ‘800 meters’.

Journalism

At the Maldita.es Foundation we work with companies and foundations to generate informative content against misinformation in different areas. In these agreements, all content produced follows exclusively our editorial criteria and our methodology. An example of this type of collaboration is the Maldita.es vertical Maldito Timo, which has the support of ESET.

Technology Projects

We develop technology and apply artificial intelligence to data analysis processes to extract narratives from content groups. This application of technology allows us to identify transnational disinformation campaigns together with our partners in certain projects. In addition, Fundación Maldita.es owns Botalite, an SL that <strong>develops automated conversational chatbots</strong> for messaging applications focused on fact-checking, media outlets and social organizations. It is an AI-backed tool that builds, strengthens and transforms clients’ relationships with their communities.

Data access

Our teams collect non-personal structured data from the disinformation we identify in Spanish and globally. These databases are unique and extremely valuable for researchers, and also for AI training. We provide access to organizations with purposes aligned with those of the foundation according to specific policies and rates. We have worked with the Complutense University and the University of Granada, among others.
