Fundación Maldita.es takes part in the European project “ENDGAME” to teach young people how to identify and debunk disinformation through gaming

Fundación Maldita.es takes part in ENDGAME: Escaping New Disinformation through Gamified Cross-Border Media Literacy Education, a European project led by the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) that aims to help young people develop critical thinking and foster a digitally responsible citizenship through the creation of educational escape rooms that simulate real-life situations in which we consume information.

Fundación Maldita.es takes part in the European project “ENDGAME” to teach young people how to identify and debunk disinformation through gaming

The aim of ENDGAME is for young people in Finland, Serbia and Spain to learn how to recognise disinformation online. To this end, interactive escape rooms will be designed—educational games in which players must overcome different challenges within a fictional scenario that closely resembles real life.

Through these games, adapted to each context, participants will learn to identify disinformation and manipulated content, recognise information generated by artificial intelligence, and understand the risks of sharing personal data on social media.

In addition, workshops will be organised with young people and local communities to help identify the most important topics that should be included in the games.

ENDGAME will run for 24 months, from March 2025 to February 2027, and project activities are expected to reach more than one thousand young people and educators through workshops, competitions, webinars and events.

What will Fundación Maldita.es do?

Fundación Maldita.es, which has already developed educational escape rooms on disinformation, will take part in the entire design and creation process of these new games, as well as delivering training sessions and promoting the results.

Specifically, it will work on designing educational scenarios that reflect real-life situations related to disinformation, raising awareness of the project through its networks and media, and organising activities in Spain together with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), such as school competitions, open events in public spaces, and presentations at education fairs and scientific conferences.

Who is involved in ENDGAME?

How much funding will Fundación Maldita.es receive to carry out the project?

The project, co-funded by the European Union through the REA-CROSS-2024-MEDIALITERACY programme, has a total budget of €712,831.86, of which €498,982.30 is funded by the EU. Fundación Maldita.es will receive €87,317.67 from the EU co-funded amount over the two-year project period.
