Maldita.es and Facta selected by the "Stars4Media" program to improve their community models

The project «Impulsar los modelos de participación comunitaria para los fact-checkers europeos» presented by Maldita.es and Facta aims to bring both organizations together to design and test a transnational community model to support fact-checking and increase the impact and reach of their work.

The «Stars4Media» program is being developed by a consortium of organizations:  VUB,  Europe’s MediaLab (Fondation EURACTIV),  the World Association of News Publishers WAN-IFRA, the European Journalism Center (EJC)  and the European Federation of Journalists.

The project was selected by a jury made up of 12 professionals from European media and academic institutions from among 48 projects from 90 media outlets.  

For 4 months, Maldita.es and Facta will participate in the exploratory phase, which will allow the foundations of the project to be laid, and then will be evaluated by a jury that will decide if it is one of the 9 projects that will proceed to the implementation phase. 

The selected projects include: 

• Data management system for the newsrooms, by El Confidencial  and Voxeurope. 
• Distilled Membership: A mobile app for independent media, by Are We Europe and Jnomics Media. 
• Providing access to verified images and videos for professionals and citizens, by France Télévisions and Faktisk.io.    
• Real-time coverage planning, by Suomen Tietotoimisto and Sourcefabric zu.
• Journalism accelerator for European cities, by Tagesspiegel  and Arena for Journalism in Europe.
• Dron media: Building a network of Russian-language explanatory journalism, by The Fix Media Foundation and Ukrayinska Pravda.   
• Smart Switch Media: Language and format conversion for bilingual and accessible media, from Latvijas Mediji JSC  and Radio Prawda dlja Rossii.  

• RePod, by Bulle Media and Acast.    
• APOLLOS, by Mediahuis and BotTalk.    
• Infopoint Agency: Supporting independent Eastern European media by InfoPoint Agency and The Kyiv Independent. 
• Regional Business Practices: Sharing the best of the Western Balkans, by Business Info Group and MINA. 
• Increasing the sustainability of investigative journalism in Eastern Europe by increasing the crowdfunding skills, from the Belarusian Investigative Center and the Crime and Corruption Reporting Network.
• Community-based subscriptions for readers to reduce their costs, by POLITYKA  and Delfi UAB.
