La Fundación Maldita.es takes part in the project “FIMI Defenders for Election Integrity” to combat foreign interference in electoral processes

In a context where disinformation actors, both domestic and foreign, threaten electoral integrity and the functioning of democratic institutions, Fundación Maldita.es joins the project “FIMI Defenders for Election Integrity (FDEI)”. This initiative, coordinated by Debunk.org, seeks to address foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) during electoral processes in several European countries, including Germany and Poland, through a coordinated, strategic and evidence-based response.

La Fundación Maldita.es takes part in the project “FIMI Defenders for Election Integrity” to combat foreign interference in electoral processes

The project aims to develop a community to counter FIMI, with standardised processes, scalable data models and interoperable tools that make it possible to monitor and respond effectively to these threats before and during elections. Key actions include the development of an Operational Handbook and the creation of FIMI Response Teams (FRTs), responsible for establishing electoral monitoring systems, assessing risks and strengthening the capacities of local organisations to address threats of foreign information manipulation. A Data Standardisation Tool (DST) will be created to improve the analysis of and response to FIMI campaigns. The project also includes training, a global online programme and country-specific reports for several European countries, along with a final report summarising the project’s findings and recommendations.

Who are the members of the consortium?

  • FIMI ISAC: Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference Information Sharing and Analysis Center, a European network for sharing and analysing FIMI threats.

What will Fundación Maldita.es contribute?

As the organisation responsible for the project’s communication and dissemination work package, Fundación Maldita.es will lead the dissemination strategy at the European level. This includes designing and coordinating a common strategy among partners, unifying key messages, developing graphic and visual materials to ensure a coherent visual identity, as well as jointly monitoring communication impact and supporting the publication of reports on the FIMI ISAC website and their dissemination through its networks.

All organisations involved in the project, including Fundación Maldita.es, are part of the FIMI-ISAC (Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference – Information Sharing and Analysis Center). The project is coordinated by Debunk.org and supported by Google.
