With this renewed support from ESET Spain, Maldito Timo will be able to continue and expand its work for another year. In addition to digital content, the project will develop in-person courses to help older people identify scams and will improve the service provided to users of Maldita.es’ WhatsApp chatbot (+34 644 229 319) by creating a dedicated conversation flow for people who believe they may have been victims of a scam.

In its first year, Maldito Timo identified more than 500 scams with the collaboration of the public, publishing over 454 related pieces of content to warn users about scams, phishing, fake investments, ghost sellers and other types of fraud.

Through the “scam inbox” at [email protected] and Maldita.es’ WhatsApp chatbot (+34 644 229 319), Maldito Timo receives queries about potential scams that users encounter on their phones, via email, calls and other channels. Most of the alerts received during the first year were addressed through articles and Q&A pieces, as well as more than a dozen live broadcasts on Maldita.es’ Twitch channel.

Maldito Timo will continue to alert the public about the most commonly used methods, trends and techniques that compromise privacy and digital security. Beyond issuing alerts, efforts will continue to focus on creating educational content and resources with the aim of protecting the public against these types of threats.

Raising awareness in the field of cybersecurity is one of ESET’s core pillars, as in a digital society cyber education helps strengthen protection in the online environment. ESET’s support for Maldito Timo aligns with this goal and enables the project to continue providing this public service.
