This collaborative project, funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), aims to strengthen the technological capacities of fact-checking organisations in Eastern Europe and Eurasia for the detection, analysis and classification of disinformation, while also enabling connections with organisations in Latin America and Spain to study how disinformation circulates across regions.
The alliance will allow fact-checkers to identify and analyse cross-border disinformation campaigns, as well as their evolution and transformation. As a result, these organisations will publish a series of investigations based on the findings and will be able to improve their strategies to combat disinformation.
Both the network itself and the innovative tools that support it will serve as a model for future efforts to foster cross-border and interregional collaboration in response to the wide-ranging and diverse challenges involved in tackling disinformation. The project will also pave the way for greater cooperation among partners and with other organisations, as the network has the potential to expand to include new countries, regions and disinformation topics, contributing to global efforts to build more coordinated, better-informed and ultimately more impactful responses to this global challenge.
