This category recognises each year journalistic projects or articles that “represent a significant contribution to the promotion and dissemination among citizens” of the right to data protection, and that “help to raise awareness among those who handle personal information about their responsibilities in guaranteeing this right”.
Among the other categories awarded annually by the AEPD are research in this field — personal data — as well as recognition of good practices by a project or company to improve the privacy of the people who interact with it.
The first prize in the communication category was awarded to journalist Begoña Vázquez de la Paz, from the programme La Aventura del Saber on Televisión Española, for her report “Seguridad en el mundo digital”.
Maldita Tecnología is the Maldita.es section dedicated to technology outreach and debunking. Its aim is to provide people with tools to understand the online space they interact with, how this interaction affects their personal data, and to enable them to make informed decisions about their digital lives.
