Maldita.es collaborates with ChequeaBolivia with technology, training for its journalists and strengthening its verification processes

Maldita.es has carried out a process of support and collaboration with the media  ChequeaBolivia  to provide technological tools, workshops and advice that allow them to strengthen the structure of the organization as verifiers, thanks to the support of Internews.

Since September 2020, the Maldita.es team has been working closely with ChequeaBolivia on priority axes identified by the organization to strengthen its verification work in the country.

The project we worked on together was to provide them with the technology to offer their users a Google Chrome extension that alerts them about disinformation as they browse. The extension can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store.

In addition, Maldita Educa conducted a series of online workshops for ChequeaBolivia’s journalists focused on strengthening their fact-checking methodology, training them on verification tools and processes for verifying political speech.

Maldito Bulo and Maldito Dato worked alongside journalists from the ChequeaBolivia newsroom for a few weeks in order to provide them with a series of recommendations that will allow them to strengthen and streamline their workflows.

Finally, they have been provided with advice to prepare documentation on transparency and methodologies that will allow them to be a more open and accountable organization in front of their readers.

This collaboration is part of the alliance with Internews, the Universities of Harvard and Columbia, and the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico to train journalists in Bolivia in the fight against disinformation.
