Maldita.es will act as a mentor in the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) programme for fact-checking organisations

Maldita.es has been selected by the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) to participate as a mentoring organisation in a mentorship and training programme for European fact-checking organisations that are just starting out. The programme is supported by Porticus.

Maldita.es will act as a mentor in the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) programme for fact-checking organisations

The programme aims to support free and independent fact-checking organisations, many of them based in countries where they face significant challenges, by helping them grow and develop their operations in line with the standards of independence, transparency and journalistic quality set out in the European Code of Standards for Independent Fact-Checking Organisations.

Within the framework of this programme, Maldita.es will deliver training in editorial management, communication, business models and fundraising between May and July 2024.

Ten organisations from Central and Eastern Europe selected by the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) will take part in the programme: Factcheck.bg (Bulgaria); FactReview (Greece); Internews Kosova (Kosovo); CivilNet (Armenia); Lupiga (Croatia); CESI – Center for Education, Counselling and Research (Libela) (Croatia); Digital Skills Coalition Belarus / VšĮ DigitalHub, LT (Belarus); Medizin Transparent (Austria); Eurocomunicare (Romania); and Amfora.al (Albania).

In addition, Maldita.es will mentor several of these organisations between July and October, working with them on their specific needs and sharing its experience and best practices.

Alongside Maldita.es, the following organisations will participate as mentors: DPA (Germany), Newtral (Spain) and Faktoje (Albania).

How much funding will Fundación Maldita.es receive to carry out the project?

Maldita.es will receive €12,000 from the EFCSN to implement this project.

Who is funding this project?

The EFCSN is the voice of European fact-checkers, working to uphold and promote the highest standards of fact-checking and media literacy to combat disinformation for the benefit of the public. The EFCSN received funding from Porticus for the development of this project. Porticus is a philanthropic organisation based in the Netherlands focused on creating a just and sustainable future, with the aim of strengthening community resilience.
