During this event, Maldita.es offered workshops in which university students not only learned about biases and disinformation narratives, but also took part in practical and interactive exercises. The event, funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme, took place on 10 June at Impact Hub Gobernador and featured the active participation of young people from more than 10 autonomous communities.

The 80 university students taking part in Juventud Antibulera were also trained in the use of fact-checking tools to detect and debunk hoaxes and disinformation. In addition, they participated in a workshop on how social media platforms address disinformation, the most effective strategies to counter it, and how to create engaging content to fight it on these platforms.

The participants strengthened their ability to combat disinformation by designing and creating multi-format content based on verified information, with the support of the Maldita.es team. “We all have biases that affect our decisions and beliefs, and it is essential to be aware of them in order to avoid falling for disinformation,” said one of the participants. Another participant stressed the importance of responsible social media use among young people: “Thank you for focusing on young people in the profession. And for not making us feel guilty for using TikTok, but instead helping us understand it better and demand rigour and good sources from new forms of communication.”

This event is part of Maldita.es’ ongoing commitment to engaging the public in the fight against disinformation. The foundation promotes critical thinking and the responsible use of information in order to contribute to a more informed and participatory society.
