The project partners, from Germany, Spain, Estonia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom, Romania and Switzerland, will work together for three years to combine their expertise and develop a system for media outlets and other stakeholders that, using artificial intelligence and algorithms, will analyse text, audio and video in seven languages to identify content with a high risk of disinformation. This content will then be reviewed by fact-checking professionals, who will in turn provide feedback to further train the tool.
“The platform,” explained AI4TRUST coordinator Riccardo Gallotti (FBK), “aims to become a space where the risk of consuming unreliable information can be assessed, but above all to create a trustworthy online environment that, through the involvement of researchers, media professionals and policymakers, can facilitate the creation and dissemination of reliable information, automatically countering disinformation.”
What does Maldita.es contribute?
Our journalists and disinformation experts will help shape the project and the tool, and will also provide data to the other consortium members to train the AI behind the system. In addition, Maldita.es journalists will be responsible for carrying out the final testing of the tool.
Who else is involved?
The project, selected under the European Union programme Horizon – AI to fight disinformation, has a total budget of €5,950,000, of which Maldita.es will receive €290,000 over three years. You can find more information about this programme at this link.
