The 15 media outlets were selected for their pioneering and innovative plans, ranging from reaching younger audiences and creating audio content to sustainably monetising their audiences and encouraging participation.
Maldita.es will work on the creation of a new community management system that will allow members of its Superpowers programme to participate more actively and effectively in the organisation’s initiatives, while also gaining new knowledge to combat disinformation through multimedia formats.
This programme is part of Media Innovation Europe (MIE), a new joint initiative by the IPI co-funded by the European Union, which aims to equip newsrooms to achieve editorial independence and financial sustainability.
The selected newsrooms were chosen by an independent jury from Spain, Portugal, Norway, Slovakia and Hungary. This initiative stems from research conducted by the International Press Institute and represents an initial step towards enabling journalists, editors and media creators around the world who are rebuilding their local media ecosystems to work towards meeting audience needs, building greater trust, and providing stronger support for democracy and more effective defences against disinformation.
The 15 selected newsrooms are:
- Hromadske Radio (Ukraine)
- Wydawnictwo Zwierciadlo (Poland)
- LUPA (Montenegro)
- Átlátszó Erdély (Romania)
- RADAR Magazine (Italy)
