The Master's Degree in Journalism from Maldita.es and URJC kicks off with the collaboration of seven media outlets

The Master’s Degree in Investigative Journalism, New Narratives, Data, Fact-Checking, and Transparency by the Maldita.es Foundation and Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) kicked off this Monday in Madrid. This Own Degree of the Madrid university counts on the most innovative data journalists, researchers, and media in current journalism. elDiario.es, Servimedia, Podimo, The Facto, Datadista, Prodigioso Volcán, and Maldita.es will be the collaborating media of the master’s degree, where students will carry out their paid internships.

During the presentation, held at the Quintana headquarters of the URJC, the academic director of the master’s, Manuel Gertrudix, highlighted

“the passion to innovate, the passion for that journalism more necessary than ever,”

Manuel will be one of the pillars of this training.

emphasized Antonio Rubio, director of the master’s and investigative journalist.

The Vice-Chancellor of Own Degrees of the URJC, Mª Lourdes Meléndez, was in charge of welcoming the students of this first class that has just started and reminded them that «good training is essential for professionals to know how to control disinformation.» A shared idea by Clara Jiménez, CEO of Maldita.es, who also participated in the presentation.

 

Primer «Laboratorio Periodístico» del máster

After the presentation, the first event of the master’s «Journalistic Laboratory» took place, in which the speakers, coordinated by Antonio Rubio, analyzed how the media has reported on these 10 years without the terrorist group ETA.

The session was attended by representatives of the collaborating media and some of the journalists who will be part of this journalistic laboratory, such as Julio Montes, director of Maldita.es; Tomás Ocaña, founder of The Facto; Carmela Ríos, journalist specialized in social networks; Raúl Sánchez González, coordinator of data and visualization at elDiario.es; Mario Tascón, director of Prodigioso Volcán, and François Musseau, director and founder of Diario Vivo.
