Maldita.es nominated for the European journalism award, European Press Prize, for its WhatsApp service

Maldita.es has been selected by the preparatory committee of the European Press Prize as a finalist in the journalistic innovation category for the work it is doing with its WhatsApp service, a chatbot to fight disinformation that offers several services for citizens: from automatic content verification to an audio and text summary of the day’s denials to a media literacy content option. In addition, this chatbot allows the Maldita.es team to automatically store possible hoaxes that are reported by users and measure their virality.

More than 23 thousand users use this service, which has received more than 270,000 messages since its launch in June 2020. The bot is capable of analyzing images, videos, audios and texts and responds automatically to users if their content has already been verified. by the Maldita.es team of journalists.

This is the third time that Maldita.es has been selected as a finalist in this category of the prestigious European award. In 2017, Maldita Hemeroteca was nominated and in 2018, Maldito Bulo . This nomination as a finalist once again recognizes the innovative efforts of Maldita.es in pursuing its mission: developing tools to help you not get cheated.

The Maldita.es chatbot is an innovative effort to address misinformation circulating in private messaging channels, automatically stop the circulation of misinformation, improve the workflow of journalists and fact-checkers, and provide literacy tools and materials. media to citizens.
