Maldita.es Foundation brought together young university students from several Spanish provinces in Madrid for a day on misinformation related to gender, climate and migration.
During this event, Maldita.es offered workshops where university students not only learned about biases and misinforming narratives, but also participated in practical and interactive exercises. The event, financed by the European Union through the Erasmus+ program, was held on June 10 at the Impact Hub Gobernador and had the active participation of young people from more than 10 autonomous communities.
The 80 university students of the Antibulera Youth were also trained in the use of verification tools to detect and deny hoaxes and misinformation. In addition, they participated in a workshop on how social networks deal with misinformation, the most effective strategies to counteract it, and the development of attractive content to combat it on these platforms.
Participants strengthened their capacity to combat misinformation by designing and creating multi-format content based on verified information, with the support of the Maldita.es team . “We all have biases that affect our decisions and beliefs, and it is essential to be aware of them to avoid falling into misinformation,” said one of the participants of the day. Another participant emphasized the responsible use of social networks by young people: «Thank you for focusing on young people in the profession. And for not making us feel guilty for using TikTok, but rather helping us get to know it better and demand it.» to new forms of communication, rigor and good sources!”
This event is part of Maldita.es ‘ ongoing commitment to involving citizens in the fight against disinformation. The foundation promotes critical thinking and the responsible use of information to contribute to a more informed and participatory society.
