Maldita.es participates in the 'III Journalist Meeting Africa-Spain' held in Nairobi (Kenya)

From December 1th until December 3th, Maldita.es and other Spanish fact-checking media participate in the III Journalist Meeting Africa Spain that takes place in Nairobi (Kenya). Organized by Casa África and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation together with the Kenya Medial Council, it is the first time that this advanced course on verification and new narratives in verification journalism is held in Africa. The CEO and co-founder of Maldita.es, Clara Jiménez Cruz, will teach the workshop “Disinformation: How do ‘the bad guys’ work? Motivations and techniques».

The meeting is attended by journalists from Africa Check, EFE Verifica, El País, Maldita.es, Mundo Negro, Newtral and Verifica RTVE. This is a mutual learning experience that will allow Spanish journalists to understand how disinformation goes viral in this region of Africa and see how Kenyan journalists deal with it on a daily basis, how they verify facts and what tools they use to do so.

For more than a decade, Casa África has been working to strengthen relations between Spanish and African journalists, with the aim of promoting a balanced vision without stereotypes of the African continent and also to serve as a bridge between Spanish and African media. This meeting has the support of the Spanish Embassy in Kenya and the Kenyan Embassy in Spain.
