Maldita Educa and Junior Report team up to fight disinformation in the classroom

Maldita Educa and Junior Report have signed a collaboration agreement to promote truthful information among young people and teach them to be critical consumers of information. The newspaper for young people will open a section developed by Maldita Educa to identify and dismantle hoaxes that go viral.

Junior Report is a newspaper that takes a different approach to a global issue each week, explaining reality in a didactic and accessible way. The goal is to encourage critical thinking in young people so that they can understand what is happening in the world and form their own opinions. Junior Report, which collaborates with La Vanguardia for its Spanish version, produces digital magazines for more than thirty schools in Catalonia, and it is on these platforms that the content of Maldita.es will be published.

For both projects, education is the key to preventing the spread of disinformation: if people are able to recognize biased or poorly prepared information, they will also avoid sharing it and even stop consuming the channels that publish it. In this way, information can contribute to creating a more just society that is more aware of the issues that affect it.

Maldita Educa joins the RED Project

The educational initiative of Maldita.es will collaborate with the RED project (Revista Escolar Digital), the network of school newspapers promoted by Junior Report, in which high school students become journalists, writing and managing their own news headlines.

The RED newspapers will include the section «Let’s learn with Maldito Bulo«, a section where hoaxes and news denied by the platform will be published. In this way, the Maldita Educa team will help identify and dismantle false news that has gone viral among young people.

Each «hoax» will be accompanied by the necessary keys to recognize why it is false information and explain how the verification process has been carried out.

«Disinformation is a major problem that we must try to neutralize with the help of experts», adds Francesc Castanyer, director of Blue Globe Media, publisher of the Junior Report newspaper.

This project joins others developed by Maldita Educa, the Maldita.es initiative dedicated to media literacy, the development of training materials and classes and workshops in schools,
