This May, the second stage of the Iberian digital media observatory Iberifier began , which began with a meeting of its members in Pamplona (Navarra).
Maldita.es Foundation will continue to be part of the project consortium, which has already established itself as the largest Iberian digital media observatory since its creation in 2021.
Iberifier has until now focused on research, analysis and debunking hoaxes, as well as the dissemination of good practices in the critical consumption of information by citizens. In its second stage, scheduled until 2026, it will extend these activities to all Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries, while coordinating its work with the rest of the observatories promoted by the European Commission in the 27 EU countries and which in Together they form the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) .
The Maldita.es Foundation collaborates with 24 partners including universities, fact-checkers and media. The initiative is coordinated by the University of Navarra (Pamplona, Spain). You can see all the observatory partners here .
Maldita.es will continue the technological development and maintenance of the Iberifier repository , and will carry out the creation of new functions compatible with artificial intelligence for the Iberifier repository. These tools will allow for more efficient detection and analysis of disinformation, streamlining the verification process and improving the accuracy of the results. Maldita.es together with all the fact-checkers of the consortium will continue to feed the repository with their articles and verifications. In turn, Maldita.es will participate in the compilation of reports on disinformation narratives for the European Digital Media Observatory. This work will allow us to identify trends and patterns in circulating misinformation, essential for developing more effective strategies.
In addition, it will participate in the preparation of quarterly reports on interregional disinformation narratives, covering Spain, Portugal and Latin America, which will provide a complete view of the disinformation landscape in the region. She will also coordinate the preparation of two annual reports that will reflect the results of the different content dissemination experiments. to evaluate the effectiveness of different communication strategies to combat misinformation.
Maldita.es Foundation will receive €100,312.50. The total budget of the project is €1,270,854.17 and the project will last 3 years, ending in 2026.
