Comprobado, an alliance of 24 media and fact-checkers to fight misinformation before the 23-J elections

Starting this Monday, July 3, and until election day, Comprobado will offer the most notable verifications linked to the electoral process. Public service content that is prepared following the principles of journalistic ethics, investigative methodology and transparency, to offer an agile response from the community of fact-checkers to the early call for general elections and the growth of misinformation.

According to the latest winter Eurobarometer carried out by the European Commission, 86% of Spaniards believe that the existence of content that distorts reality or is false is a problem for democracy. A percentage that exceeds the European average by five points. Specifically regarding politics, the Digital News Report Spain from the Reuters Institute for 2021 reveals that 50% of Internet users in Spain acknowledge having been exposed to hoaxes on this topic.

This coalition collects the Comprobado experience in 2019, the first collaborative project to independently verify electoral information in Spain. In this 2023 edition, efforts focus on increasing the dissemination of verified content and offering the media useful information for their audience, which complements electoral coverage.
