Maldita.es wins the second prize in the Personal Data Communication Award of the AEPD for the technological Malditas Twitcherías

The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) has awarded with the second prize in the 2022 Data Communication Award to the work of Maldita.es for bringing the impact of technology and the use of personal data closer through Maldita Tecnología programs in the Malditas Twitcherías that are broadcast weekly.

The 2022 Communication Data Protection Award category recognizes journalistic works that “represent an outstanding contribution to the dissemination and promotion of data protection principles among citizens and/or raise awareness among those who handle information about their responsibility in the guarantee of this right.” Maldita Tecnología also won the second prize for communication at the 2020 Data Protection Awards for its work on issues related to privacy, data use, technology ethics, and digital rights.

The jury of the 2022 AEPD Data Protection Awards recognizes Maldita.es with the second prize of the Communication Award for programs: “Patrones oscuros y manipulación online: ¿sabes cómo te la intentan colar?”, “Acoso online: ¿cómo lo identificamos y cómo actuamos ante él?”, “¿Nos importa realmente lo que pasa con nuestros datos? Maldita Tecnología responde” and “La privacidad de tus conversaciones: por qué importa el debate sobre el cifrado”.

The first prize in the Communication category went to the Science and Technology Area of ​​Agencia EFE, which presented works such as “Photos of children. Think before uploading them to social media” and “Think before scanning: QR codes can be a pathway for scams”.

The 2022 Data Protection Awards are awarded in six categories: “Ángela Ruiz Robles” Entrepreneurship; Initiatives for greater protection of women’s privacy against digital violence; Good practices to comply with regulations; Communication; Good educational practices for the responsible and safe use of the Internet by minors; and “Emilio Aced” Research.

Maldita Tecnología programs in the Maldita Twitchería aims to be spaces for dissemination and literacy on topics related to the social impact of technology, providing tools to raise awareness among the public about the problems associated with the misuse of their personal data to make better informed decisions
