The European Press Prize 2022 celebrates its 10th anniversary with a gala in Madrid organized together with Maldita.es and PorCausa

This year, the European Press Prize award ceremony marks the tenth anniversary of the Prize’s creation. Representatives of the best European journalism met this Thursday at a gala held in Madrid, at La Casa Encendida. An event that was featured by Olga Rudenko, editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian newspaper The Kyiv Independent, as a speaker and guest. 

The event was moderated by Clara Jiménez Cruz, CEO and co-founder of Maldita.es, who interviewed Rudenko live in a conversation that focused on the importance of journalism in a context such as the one Ukraine is currently experiencing after the Russian invasion on February 24th. 

The finalist and winning works this 2022 are stories that encompass cultural, political, social and economic aspects of Europe. Among them, the financing of the real estate market, the irregularities and misconduct of police officers in cases of human trafficking, the differences in German society, the migration of Belarusians after the presidential elections of August 2020 or the collapse of global narratives.

The European Press Prize was born ten years ago in Amsterdam by seven independent European foundations with the aim of celebrating journalism. In the ten years of its creation, the award has received more than 5,700 applications from 46 countries. Maldita.es won the 2021 Innovation Award in for its WhatsApp Chatbot to fight disinformation.
