Maldita.es Foundation and the organization Democracy Reporting International will work together to study disinformation and electoral conversation on social networks during the month prior to the general elections on July 23.
Democracy Reporting International carried out a similar initiative for the 2021 German federal elections in collaboration with the media Der Tagesspiegel and has partnered with Maldita.es to reproduce it in Spain.
With the collaboration of Maldita.es, they will analyze the messages of the most relevant and influential profiles in Spanish politics on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook . In addition, they will resort to the analysis of the contents that make up the Maldita.es database on disinformation to nourish this more in-depth analysis.
The objective is to obtain conclusions about the development of the political debate over the 31 days prior to the election, observing factors such as the number of publications, their virality or their themes. Maldita.es will also check if there is a relationship between the data of accounts directly related to politics and what citizens denounce on Maldita.es WhatsApp as disinformation they find on their private channels. These results will subsequently be published in a report that will be in the public domain.
