Ashoka Fellow 2019: Maldita.es Co-founder Selected as a Social Entrepreneur by the International Social Innovation Foundation

This is a recognition of the work carried out by Clara at the helm of Maldita.es together with Julio Montes, redefining the relationship between the public and the media, turning passive consumers of information into active contributors who review and report disinformation and empower journalistic work by acting as vectors for the viralisation of verified content, taking the work of Maldita.es much further.

Ashoka is a non-profit, independent and non-denominational foundation, and does not depend on any public or private body. It was founded in the United States in 1981, and in Spain in 2005. It has established itself as the leading organisation in the field of social entrepreneurship and currently has a community of more than 3,500 Social Entrepreneurs and 300 Changemaker Schools worldwide.

An idea that can transform society

After a selection process of more than a year, Clara Jiménez Cruz has been selected based on 5 criteria that are at the core of Maldita.es:

  • New Idea
  • Entrepreneurial quality
  • Creativity
  • Social impact
  • Ethical fibre

Ashoka considers that, through its work, Maldita.es inspires and empowers other people to transform their communities and society. Clara is one of the 16 European people chosen this year as social entrepreneurs by Ashoka.
