The award, endowed with €3,000, was received at a virtual ceremony by Maldita.es co-founder and editor-in-chief Julio Montes, on behalf of the team made up of more than 25 people, including journalists and engineers.

This prize is organised by the pharmaceutical group Janssen, part of Johnson & Johnson, and has been awarded for more than five years with the aim of recognising projects that stand out for their innovative nature and humanistic approach, developed by the different stakeholders surrounding the figure of the patient.

The jury, made up of 47 members from the Cátedras en Red organisation, healthcare professionals, journalists, patient associations, non-governmental organisations and foundations, decided to grant this award to Maldita.es for its user-centred journalistic work. In this edition, the prize for “journalistic works”, one of the seven categories of the awards, also recognised in second place science journalists Laura Chaparro, who collaborates with Maldita.es and other media outlets, and Esther Samper, from eldiario.es.
