Fundación Maldita.es launches the third edition of Maldita Agricultura to tackle disinformation about farming and the CAP

Fundación Maldita.es is launching MALAGRI 3: Maldita Agricultura for Continued Awareness and Understanding of the CAP in Spain, a new edition of its project aimed at improving understanding of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in Spain and tackling disinformation related to agriculture, food and rural life. The initiative, co-funded by the European Union, will run for 12 months, with a particular focus on young people under the age of 30 living in urban areas.

The project will continue to provide reliable, evidence-based information about the CAP’s objectives, its implementation in Spain and its impact on agriculture and food systems. To achieve this, it will combine fact-checking journalism, explanatory articles, in-depth investigations and content tailored to the digital formats used by young people.

Listening to the agricultural sector to improve information

The main new feature of this third edition is the introduction of a structured, ongoing collaboration model with agricultural associations. The aim is to draw on their knowledge and experience to identify information gaps, detect misunderstandings and recognise disinformation narratives that are relevant to the sector.

To this end, the project plans to conduct surveys among agricultural associations and organise at least one focus group to explore their needs and perspectives in greater depth. Young people will also be consulted through Maldita.es’s digital channels to assess their knowledge of the CAP and identify their information needs.

In addition, an Agricultural Advisory Council will be established, bringing together representatives of agricultural organisations and other sector stakeholders. The council will meet quarterly to review content and suggest improvements in terms of accuracy, balance and relevance. This collaboration will be complemented by email and WhatsApp communication channels to address questions and gather input on current affairs.

The initiative builds on the work carried out in previous editions of Maldita Agricultura (Malagri 2 and Malagri). It introduces a model of listening and exchange with the agricultural sector, allowing its perspectives and experiences to help shape the content while preserving the editorial independence of the journalistic work.

Who funds Maldita.es, and how much funding does it receive for this project?

Malagri 3: Maldita Agricultura for Continued Awareness and Understanding of the CAP in Spain is co-funded (60%) by the European Commission through the IMCAP-2026-INFOME programme (Support for Information Measures Relating to the Common Agricultural Policy). The project will receive €133,769.69 to carry out its activities from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027.
