Maldita.es Foundation will collaborate with Plena Inclusión to adapt articles into easy-to-read format for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Through a weekly publication on the Planeta Fácil website, the Plena Inclusión team will select articles from Maldita.es and adapt them into easy-to-read format, a method for creating and adapting content for people with comprehension difficulties. The easy-to-read versions will also be accessible from Maldita.es through a link at the end of each article.

With the easy-to-read method, Maldita.es and Plena Inclusión aim to make content more accessible for people with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, older adults with cognitive impairment, among others. With this agreement, both organizations seek to guarantee the right to cognitive accessibility, which could benefit up to 270,000 people with intellectual disabilities in Spain.

Each Maldita.es article adapted by Plena Inclusión and published on the Planeta Fácil website includes the easy-to-read version of the news piece along with an audio narration, a tool that makes the content more accessible and that can also help nearly 500,000 people with mental health conditions and more than eight and a half million older adults.

Plena Inclusión brings together 940 organizations that work to defend the rights of people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and autism) and their families. Some of the first adapted articles are already available, such as “What will be discussed this year at the climate meeting in Glasgow?” and “90 years of women’s suffrage in Spain.”
