The European MILD Project Launches a Campaign to Combat Disinformation Affecting Migrants

The POV: More Correct Information, Less Discrimination campaign is part of the European project MILD (More Correct Information, Less Discrimination), implemented by a consortium of organisations from Italy, Malta, Greece and Spain.

Through videos, infographics and social media content, POV aims to amplify underrepresented voices, promote media literacy and foster a more inclusive, evidence-based public discourse.

The campaign builds on research carried out by the MILD project in the four partner countries: Italy, represented by Lunaria (project coordinator) and Carta di Roma; Malta, by the African Media Association Malta (AMAM); Greece, by Antigone; and Spain, by Fundación Maldita.es. In Spain, the research highlighted the persistent underrepresentation of migrants, refugees and racialised communities in mainstream media, as well as a shared perception that media narratives are often oversimplified, reinforce stereotypes and rarely reflect the diversity and complexity of these communities. These findings have informed both the project's training activities and the key messages of the campaign, which aims to encourage critical thinking about the information people consume and share every day.

The campaign highlights the experiences, knowledge and contributions of people who are too often excluded from public debate, while also showcasing examples of responsible, inclusive journalism. Campaign content will be published in English, Italian, Greek and Spanish across the social media channels of all project partners, ensuring broad outreach to diverse audiences and age groups.

As part of the project, a range of training resources has also been developed and will be promoted throughout the campaign. These materials are designed to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations, journalists and journalism students to identify and counter misinformation affecting migrants, as well as hate speech. In addition, the project has organised events and dialogue sessions to present these resources to relevant audiences. In Spain, Fundación Maldita.es has held workshops with students from the Master's Programme in International Solidarity Action and Social Inclusion at Carlos III University of Madrid, participated in the GriGriPixel: Bridges of Hospitality event, and delivered specialised training for journalists at the Madrid Press Association.
